The new Foundations of Safe Tenting course, which was unveiled in February at The ARA Show™ in New Orleans, is available for you and your team — all free of charge.
This one-of-a-kind course is the result of a unique collaborative effort between the American Rental Association (ARA), the Manufacturers and Tent Renters Association (MATRA) and the Advanced Textiles Association (ATA) Tent Rental Division.
“We were so fortunate to have been able to pull from the subject matter experts from all three organizations. That provided great feedback as well as rich and valuable resources — all aspects that will benefit the person taking the course,” says Grace Nelson, ARA director of education programs.
Through a variety of videos, texts and interactive activities, new as well as seasoned pros will go through the five modules of the course, which cover:
- An introduction and brief history of tents
- Terminology: tents, tools and equipment
- Safe tenting
- Prepping for a tent installation
- Dismantling and maintaining the tents
Knowledge checks will follow each module with a final quiz at the end. Those who successfully finish the course will receive a certificate of completion.
For MATRA President Liz Davis, CERP, construction operations manager, Sunbelt Temporary Structures, based in Memphis, Tenn., the beauty of this new tent installer training program is “it promotes a safe and informed tent industry,” she says. “MATRA is thrilled to have collaborated on this. As we all look to continuously attract and retain quality employees and reduce the risk of safety incidents, there is no better way than through education. I’m excited to see the membership of all three associations involved benefit from this amazing new tool.”
