European equipment rental organization Boels Rental, based in Sittard, Netherlands, has announced its prospective acquisition of mobile elevating work platform rental, maintenance and sales company Riwal, Dordrecht, Netherlands.

Boels Rental maintains 764 branches across 18 countries, employs more than 7,000 people, and offers a range of 860,000 rental items and specializations in its offerings. Riwal operates out of 14 different countries through 65 branches with nearly 1,200 employees and has a rental fleet of approximately 20,000 machines.

The completion of the acquisition is subject to certain customary conditions to be fulfilled including, among others, approvals by the relevant competition authorities.

Boels Rental said the strategic move aligns with its growth strategy to become the No. 1 rental partner of choice in Europe by solidifying its presence in existing markets, expanding into new territories and enlarging its AWP fleet.

The company said the acquisition presents the opportunity to enter new European markets like Spain and France, and expand its global footprint through Riwal’s branches in areas like India and Qatar.

With more than 60 percent of Riwal’s fleet already electrified, the acquisition also aligns with Boels’ commitment to sustainability.

“With a combined fleet of over 55,000 AWPs [aerial work platforms] and additional expertise and services, we are confident in meeting the highest customer standards, enabling us to deliver unparalleled customer service to keep our customers going,” said Pierre Boels, CEO, Boels Rental.

“The strategic fit between Boels and Riwal is impeccable from a cultural, geographical and growth opportunity perspective. The acquisition is a testament to the strength and quality of our work at Riwal and Manlift,” said Pedro Torres, CEO, Riwal.
