ICYMI, it’s been quite a spring here in the Northwest

Spring was here, then winter, then spring again and then back to winter. Optimistically, spring is now here to stay, leading the way into summer. Many of us experienced a slow, early spring, but in lieu of working we were able to gather with industry friends and peers. Some of us even learned a few things.

In case you missed it (ICYMI), it’s been quite a spring here in the Northwest with lots going on.

ARA of Montana met in early March for its annual State of the State Summit. As per usual, people from across the state gathered for the event that was highlighted by a motivational speaker and an economic forecast.

For our next event, we go to ARA of Idaho for a Department of Transportation (DOT) safety regulations meeting. Let’s just say the DOT training was thorough and extremely educational for everybody in the room. Oh, that’s not all. Immediately following the session, attendees were allowed to shoot automatic weapons, different pistols and a .50-cal rifle. ARA of Idaho also held its second annual Topgolf outing during the first week of May that was completely sold out. We had great attendance from not only local companies but also folks from the southeast side of the state.

It was my pleasure to attend my first ARA of Oregon Crab Feed in Newport in March. This also was well-attended with great seminars, amazing views, and who can forget an amazing spread? ARA of Oregon is also planning to do a Topgolf event in Portland in August. You will see more details as the event gets buttoned up.

Saving best for last, ARA of Washington hosted ARA (American Rental Association) Certified Forklift Train-the-Trainer courses in May. One was held at Freedom Equipment Rentals in Pasco, followed the next day by another at American Party Place in Tacoma. Both classes were well-attended, and we now have some new trainers to keep everybody safe.

ARA’s Region Eight is alive and well. During my travels I have been able to meet lots of new members and catch up with old friends. It’s been a pleasure to serve for the first six months as your regional director.

Summer is the time of year when ARA gathers nominations for its annual Industry Awards — including the Rental Hall of Fame and a variety of Industry Contributor Awards. Do you know someone in the equipment and event rental community who has gone above and beyond to help the industry thrive? You can help ARA give that individual the recognition they deserve. All it takes is a nomination from you. Visit ARArental.org/Industry-Awards to learn more and submit your nomination(s). The deadline is Friday, Aug. 9. Recipients selected will be honored at The ARA Show™ 2025 in Las Vegas.

Finally, I want to acknowledge Aaron Baucom of EquipmentShare.com, who recently stepped up to serve on the ARA of Idaho state chapter board of directors. Thanks, Aaron, for taking the time out of your busy schedule to give back to the industry.

Wishing you a safe and successful summer.
