Ri$k Happens: Miracle in the rental yard

Christmas miracles have been said to happen from time to time. For one rental operation, their miracle began with a theft.

The manager came into the rental yard one morning to find several pieces of equipment moved from their normal spots. A very large hole was cut in their fence to a neighboring, vacant property.

The manager and his employees quickly took stock to see if anything was missing. Several pieces of equipment were gone along with a trailer that was probably used to remove the equipment. They called the police and filed a theft report. Their next call was to their insurance company to get a claim started.

Later that day a contractor the rental store had done business with for years called the manager. He had several pieces of equipment on one of his job sites that he had not rented from the rental store, but the items were clearly marked with their logo and contact information. He asked the manager if perhaps they had rented them to another customer. The manager explained about the theft and let the contractor know he would be calling the police back to inform them of the new developments.

A police officer and the manager of the rental store met at the job site and discovered all of the equipment was there. The equipment was returned to the rental store, the fence was repaired, and the claim was closed. As the owner of the rental store said, “It was the weirdest thing.”

Or was it a Christmas miracle?
