Rental Software Series: Baseplan Software Group

February 1, 2023

The exact number of companies that offer equipment and event rental-specific software changes as companies enter and exit the market, but today there are more than 30 companies to choose from.

To help readers navigate through the variety of options when it comes to equipment and event rental-specific software, Rental Management is producing this Rental Software Series, which will provide profiles of software suppliers on a regular basis.

This month, we profile Baseplan Software Group, Houston.

Company name: Baseplan Software Group
Locations: Houston and Thornleigh, New South Wales, Australia
Number of employees: 60
Year the company was founded: 1986
Founder: Andrew Ferry

Current software products available: Baseplan Enterprise, Baseplan Mobility App

Target customers: Equipment rental companies as well as specialty and construction companies.

What makes your product “rental-specific”? “Baseplan Enterprise and Baseplan Mobility have been built from the ground up for the rental industry with key modules in the solution designed specifically for rental. Baseplan’s solutions enable a rental business to manage the entire rental process all from one place with functionality around sales, quoting, rental, transport, inspections, servicing, parts and inspections just to name a few. This is then all tied together with a purpose-built financial platform and sophisticated reporting. Baseplan was designed from the start to be an all-in-one solution for the rental industry which would not require a rental business to have to integrate multiple systems together to get a logical and functioning platform,” says Alexander Sarian, senior business development manager.

How does your product make a rental store more efficient? “There are many ways Baseplan helps rental businesses become more efficient, but one clear example is that with our all-inclusive platform there is substantial time savings in the form of availability of information across the business and the reduction in data loss through the pushing of data across integrations. Having an allinclusive system means there is one source of truth and clear systems in place to reduce errors and streamline processes. Beyond this, one other clear area Baseplan brings further efficiencies to the rental industry is through the use of our mobile application. Being able to easily scan equipment and parts with a QR code through your device’s camera and being able to create a rental contract on the spot, managing and updating transport driver locations, assigning and fulfilling service jobs and conducting pre- and post-rental inspections are just some of the
ways Baseplan brings a new level of efficiency to our rental customers,” Sarian says.

Rental companies using your software: Baseplan has more than 100 customers on its platform.

Percentage of your total installed base of customers are equipment and event rental companies: “Close to 100 percent of Baseplan’s current customer base is directly involved in the rental business with some having rental be their core business and others having rental be one of many offerings such as sales and manufacturing. Baseplan is equally capable of serving both those who are a dedicated rental business and those who have rental as one of their key offerings,” Sarian says.

What do you think is next for rental-specific software? “The future we believe is in mobile technologies and artificial intelligence. Dedicated mobile applications will be the future as they mean staff will no longer be tethered to their desks and will be able to engage with customers on the road and around job sites effectively,” Sarian says.
