The latest data compiled on equipment thefts by the National Equipment Register (NER®) shows — to the surprise of no one involved in rentals — that equipment theft remains big business for bad actors.
Equipment fraud, conversion and “smash-and-grab” thefts continue to plague the industry — especially during the summer months and over holidays.
What does the damage look like on an operational level? View the graphic prepared by NER detailing heavy equipment theft trends during 2022 — including information on top equipment types and brands that are in thieves’ crosshairs. While the data supplied is taken from U.S. cases, the caution suggested by the findings applies to any location with equipment.
Here’s a quick and easy way to get solid theft-prevention tips in the hands of your staff: Log in to RentalU, the American Rental Association’s (ARA) online training platform, and just type in “theft” in the search bar. That will give you instant access to items like:
- ARA’s new “Preventing and Handling Theft” video that’s only a little more than a minute long
- NER’s Spring Safety Tune-Up document
- Protecting Your Business During Downtime document
- And much more
