Season’s greetings, fellow American Rental Association (ARA) Region Three members! As we reflect on 2023, I have to say that I am continually amazed by the resilience of the people in this industry. From labor issues, equipment theft, economic uncertainty and the usual weather-related worries, this year has thrown us all sorts of challenges. But through it all, we have persevered.

You can view a more in-depth take on what rental operators across our region have experienced in 2023 and how things are shaping up for 2024 here.

Now, we look forward to the new year and some exciting opportunities it will bring.

First, I encourage you to attend The ARA Show™ in New Orleans. From top-shelf education to networking events and the sold-out show floor, the show is the best way you can fire up your business and your team for success in 2024.

Then, the association is launching a new, comprehensive, rental-specific ARA Certified Forklift Training program in March. It is a great opportunity for those who carry this kind of inventory to make sure you are putting safety first. It follows on the heels of other ARA Certified programs for event rental (Certified Event Rental Professional), equipment (Mobile Elevating Work Platform Training and Service), and the Sales program for anyone involved in counter interactions. Certifications add to your company’s knowledge base and capability. Check into these under the “Learn” tab at ARArental.org.

I would like to encourage folks in your rental operation who are in college or are college-bound to apply for a share of the $138,000 in scholarships that will be available for the 2024-2025 school year through the ARA Foundation and its affiliate partners. Students from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee take special notice, because your state chapters offer “affiliate” state-specific scholarships among the many offerings. It’s easy to apply — one application submission takes care of everything. Learn more and apply here.

Speaking of the ARA Foundation, know that if your rental store or employees were severely impacted by the tornadoes that tore across middle Tennessee recently, the ARA Foundation’s Disaster Relief Grants are available to assist.

Two types of grants are available:

Finally, I just want to let you know that this regional newsletter will be moving to a quarterly distribution next year. If you don’t want to miss out on any regional news before the next one comes out in March, click here. We’ll make sure you receive the latest in your email feed.

I wish you, your families and your team members a wonderful holiday season! Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your ARA Region Three director here in the Southeast.
