The American Rental Association’s (ARA) Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) Operator Training program is now open to customers of ARA-member equipment rental businesses.

“The ability for members to train customers is a natural evolution of our MEWP program,” says Josh Nickell, ECP-SM, ARA vice president, equipment segment. “Not only does it allow members to build additional revenue streams through training, but it also improves job-site safety, efficiency, and equipment wear and tear with rented and owned fleet. This results in a better customer experience and over time leads to increased rental penetration.”

ARA’s MEWP Operator Training for Customers program qualifies graduates to operate MEWPs to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) requirements and ANSI (American National Standards Institute) A92 standards.

The program is available to customers in combination with hands-on training sessions to be facilitated by an ARA Certified MEWP Trainer at the rental business. Customers will take the classroom portion of the training using ARA’s online program through an extension of RentalU — ARA’s online education and training platform — and then spend 4-5 hours completing the hands-on portion of the training.

Customers are provided access to digital copies of all the training materials. Upon successful completion of the hands-on training portion, ARA Certified MEWP Operators will be sent an operator card certifying their status.

The cost to purchase the ARA MEWP Operator Training for Customers program is $49. Members can set their own pricing when selling it to their customers.
